Hi Geoff,
I assume that you have accidentally assigned Windows Media Player as your default application for opening .zip files.
Try this:
1. go to http://www.ableton.com/latest_versions, select the Live Lite 8.0.10 version, then select your operating system and click the 'download' button.
-> You should get a window where your browser asks if you want to OPEN or SAVE the file. Choose SAVE.
2. When the download has finished, locate the downloaded .zip file (i.e. the 'Ableton_Live_Lite_8.0.10.zip' file) in your file browser, right-click on it and choose 'extract all'.

-> This should extract a 'setup.exe' file into the same folder.
3. Double-click the setup.exe file to start the installation.

I have tried your suggestion but unfortunately when I right click the application I am not given an option to 'extract all' the only options available to me are:
Play
Scan
Open with.
Share
Send To
Cut
Copy
Create shortcut
Delete
